| Malinghe River And Drifting |
 |
As a northern tributary of the Nanpan River, the Mabeihe River originates
in Laochang Township of Panxian County and flows southeastwards into
the Nanpan River at Bahao in Xingyi region. It is 1425 km long and
covers an area of 2 924 sq meters. The part of the river, which runs
through Malinghe District is called the Malinghe River. The canyon
around the Malinghe River is a national (State- class) scenic spot
in Qianxinan. It was formed during the Yenshan movement of the earth.
With fantastic views, precipices and waterfalls, the canyon is absolutely
fascinating.
Turbulent water falls down from the northwest plateau and cuts
its way through the limestone, giving birth to a deep valley. The
whole valley presents a magnificent view, with cliffs on both sides
of the valley facing each other, blue water gushing on and a swathe
of sky overhead. The valley is famed for its bizarre-shaped rocks
and the impressive cascades along the river. On both sides of the
valley subtropical plants and tree-size cacti grow. There are waterfalls
pouring down here and there. Another wonderful thing about the valley
is that in summer or on autumn evenings one often sees will-o-the
wisp glowing intermittently, which makes you feel as if you were
in a dram-like land.
The local tourism agency offers and organizes a drift-down trip
along the 11- km long watercourse full of rapids and cliffs, which
face each other. It is an exciting adventure to drift down the river
in a rubber boat and enjoy the beautiful valley in a romantic way.
In 1997, the valley was chosen as the place where the 1997 International
Drift-Down Championship was held, for its rapids, beautiful valley
and beauty spots. |
