Sun Island, or Taiyang Dao in Chinese, is located in the middle of
the Songhua River, a tributary of the Heilongjiang River that runs
across the province. It is covered with trees, lawns, flowered terraces
and waterside pavilions and has a dyke that encircles the island to
protect it against flooding.
Harbin Songhua River freezes over during winter and all types of
winter sports are enjoyed on the frozen river.
The ice melts away in spring and during Harbin short hot summer
people cross the river to reach the resort area of Sun Island. Primarily
a scenic retreat from the city for sunbathing and relaxing, Sun
Island also has swimming pools, fairground rides and boats for hire. |
