Qufu
Qufu is located between the River Si and the River Yi in the southwest part of Shangdong Province. To the north and east of Qufu are Mount Tai and Mount Yimeng, while to the south and west are Nafu and the Great Plain of Pingye.

Qufu was the central base of the eastern tribes in ancient China and was one of the areas where Dawenkou and the Longshan culture, famed for its black pottery, were found. It was also a city of music in the Western Zhou Dynasty. Confucius was born on Mt. Ni (551 BC), grew up in Jueli and was buried near the River Si. He gave his lectures from the Xing Altar and attended office in the capital of the Lu Kingdom, Qufu itself.

Qufu is not only a city with a rich history, it is also famous for its architecture. In Qufu, there are altogether more than 412 cultural and historical relics under government protection. Among them, the Residence of Confucius, the Confucius Temple , and the Confucius Forest are the most famous. UNESCO put these sites on the list of world heritage sights in 1994.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I'm Ramon S. Conlu, Jr. from the Philippines and I've been looking for the e-mail address or mailing address of Mr. Kong Deyong who is a 77-generation descendant of Confucius and the head of World Federation of Confucius Descendants. I've been surfing the sites for his e-mail address or office address but I could not find it. So I tried asking from other agencies and institutions who has connection to Confucius to help me locate Mr. Kong.

My family name was originally spelled as Kong Lu. Then it became Conglu and finally my ancestors who migrated from China in the 17th century used Conlu.

Church records in Molo, Iloilo City dates back to 1795 and my ancestors along with other emigrants from China with family names Lacson, Locsin, Unson, Guanzon, Yulo, Yusay, among others, were identified as "mestizos de sangley" or Chinese mestizos which means that an individual from a Chinese and a Filipino native couple. Most Chinese in the Philippines came from the province of Fujian, Guangzhou and Shandong. Although the Chinese family names were already Hispanicized, it was beleived that it had its Chinese meaning.

I've read the biography of Confucius and I was shocked to know that his family name was "Kong" and he was born in the state of "Lu".

I'm now looking for the historical background of our Chinese lineage and the Conlu (Kong Lu) family in the Philippines has an estimated number of descendants of around 9,000-10,000 and it consists of 9 generations.
Mr. Kong has been updating the Confucius genealogy since 2007 and they are planning to have it finalized this year or before the 2,560th birthday of Confucius on Sept. 28.

I hope that you will help me find the e-mail address of Mr. Kong or any of his relative in China. I’m also looking for the e-mail address of Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Ramon S. Conlu, Jr.
