| Weishan Lake and Weishan County |

Weishan County lies in the south of Shandong Province. It covers an
area of 1780 sqkms with the population of 680000, and it is the famous
Railway Guerrilla Forces hometown. Weishan Lake is the largest freshwater
lake in North China, with a total area of 1290 sqkms.
The traffic and communications are very convenient. To its north
is Confucian hometown Qufu, to its south is Xuzhou Guanyin Airport,
and Jinan International Airport is not far to its north .It is more
than 100 km away from Weishan County. Jinghang Grand Canal goes
through the whole county. Jinghu Railroad, Jingfu Expressway and
the National Road 104 pass through the whole land.
Weishan is rich in mineral resources,and the supply of electricity
abundant. The proven coal deposits is 12.7 billion ton. The quality
of the coal that is known as 'Industrial Gourmet Power ';
is fine. The proven rare-earth deposits is 12.75 mln ton. The proven
limestone is 1.4 billion cubic metres. The grade of the rare-earth
is high and the impurities are few. That is the only mine containing
fluorine,carbon,cerium and lanthanum in China.
Weishan is also rich in freshwater resources and aquatic recourses.
The resources in Weishan Lake are richer than the ones in same kinds
of lakes in China. There are 78 kinds of fishes,74 kinds of economic
water plants, such as reed, lotus roots, water caltrop, gorgon fruit
etc.. and there are also 87 kinds of birds and 364 kinds of planktons
in the lake. It has been well known as 'a lake producing a
bucket of gold a day';. Weishan has been named the home of
Ma Duck and Snakeheaded Fish of China. The wide lake district is
a cultivating base.
The entironment in Weishan is fine. The tourist resources of Weishan
Lake are very distinctive. Weishan Lake has been listed as one of
the provincial scenic spots for its beautiful natural scenery. It
has been also listed as natural protecting area of birds and tour
developing area. The tourists extremely admire that over 100000
mu of lotus flowers coming into bloom seasonably each year, and
Weishan is named Chinese Lotus Flower Capital for it. Weishan Island
in the lake, which is becoming a tourist resort and a rest home,
is famous cultural relic. There are Weizi Tomb of Yin Period , Liu
Hou Zhang Liang Tomb of Han Dynasty and the carved ancient steles
on it. The Monument to the famous Railway Guerrilla Forces stands
on it, too.
The industry is comparatively complete in Weishan including mining
and processing of coal and rare-earth, machinery, shipbuilding,
chemical industry, pharmacy, building, materials-making, foodstuffs,
wine-making and so on. The main products are refined rare-earth
,polishing powder, plastic neon light bands, preserved duck eggs,
shrimp and crawfish tail meat, river snail meat, canned fruits and
asparagus etc.. These products are sold to more than 20 countries
and areas such as Europe, America, Japan, South-east Asia and so
on.
